In November I subscribed to a bi-monthly, year long project designed by Hands on Designs titled "A Year in Chalk". Every "even" month I was sent 2 charts along with the fabric and threads. To date I have completed 7. I got January "Let it Snow" done when it arrived, then got February, March & April done and suddenly it was September, so skipped the summer and have gotten through November.

These next 5 projects were "homework" sent out in January to be stitched for the Silver Needle Stitching Retreat I attended in July. They are stitched on 28 ct. shell pink cashel linen with DMC 310 (black). Day 1 of the retreat, Mona from The Silver Needle taught us how to "finish" our stitching into handy little stitching aids.

Trick or Treat Fairy by Nora Corbett
Another Halloween finish...This pattern was featured in the September, 2008 issue of Cross Stitch & Needlework. I stitched it during September & October of last year and put it away. After beading on the Witches Wheel I was in a beading frenzy so out she came and I had her all blinged out in 2 days!
Next up was a really fun and CHALLENGING stitch. It was a "Mystery" sampler offered by Abi Gurden aka Bee on her Yahoo group "The Stitch Specialists" The charts were released in 14 parts every 2 weeks and is designed using all specialty stitches. I used DMC threads, silk & wool hand spun/dyed threads from Liz at Dragonflylotus Designs and Mill Hill beads.
One of these days I'm going to "finish" this piece as a tin topper for a stitching accessory/notions box using this antique candy tin.
I stitched this little Dragon Dreams piece and put him into a acrylic coaster for an exchange. He was sent to Debbie Bryant in California in 2011 for her morning 'cuppa. (Debbie passed away this past September)
This is a favorite of mine and unfortunately, it was misplaced or stolen when the Army packed up my son's belongings on his first deployment to Iraq in 2002. I stitched it when he was in basic training at Ft. Benning, GA. and he had it hanging in his barracks in Ft. Campbell, KY. (I hope whoever took this is enjoying it..... I guess the fact that it is personalized with his name and graduation date from basic training doesn't matter to the thief!) It was stitched on light blue 14 ct. Aida, and made into a banner using camo fabric & gold twisted cord. I hope to dig the pattern out and stitch it again someday to hang in the nursery (when he and his bride get pregnant)
This piece called Bear Dreams is actually the very first counted cross stitch piece I completed. He looks so peaceful staring out at the moon & stars.
This little cutie is called "Bunny Butts". If I remember correctly it was a "Stitcher's Surprise" monthly kit that my LNS offered for several years. The tails are actually looped threads, snipped and fluffed! It also has cute little Easter egg buttons.
One of my favorite designers is Jennifer Aikman-Smith, owner of Dragon Dreams. This is the first piece I completed by Jennifer other that small free designs.
The Friendship Collaboration was put together by 3 designers: Shepherd's Bush, Charland Designs & Just Nan. Each part has a sterling silver charm attached.
Another very early stitch is this piece titled "Chief's Seattle's Testimony". It is also stitched on 14 ct. Natural Aida and is a life lesson we should all heed.
This is perhaps by far the most difficult piece (so far) I have stitched, as it is on Black Aida. It was stitched using Carries Creation hand-dyed cotton floss in "Tropical Rainstorm" I hand stitched wool felt inside and added felt "pages" for needles & pins, then a little yellow ribbon loop and a red button, all from my massive sewing stash. It is by far the most used sewing accessory I have made......
.......aside from this.....
I know it looks a little medieval but I can't stitch without my scissors, threader and "frogger" pin....and the little sterling frog to keep them away from my stitching.
Another Dragon Dreams piece is called "The Wizard's Quilt"... it is stitched using a combination of cotton and silk threads. I have the companion piece "A Dragon's Quilt" in my stash to do also.
And don't all wizards need bunny slippers ???
Do you have a pattern for your Maleficent conversion of The Raven Queen? My cross stitch mentor is in love with it and I would love to find it for her.
