Reflecting .....

On February 9, 2010 I got out of the hospital.  Not because of an illness or having ANOTHER surgery, but because I was a prescription drug addict.  NO I did not buy them from the corner drug dealer, but was being prescribed them by the bottles full by a doctor.

After 5 surgeries from 1996 through 2003 to try and stabilize my deteriorating spine, I was left with chronic pain which was supposedly being "controlled" by a pain management doctor,  What was really happening is he was giving me any and every kind of narcotic/antidepressant/muscle relaxer, which was doing nothing to really control the pain.... It was controlling my mind.  From 2003 until THAT DAY in 2010 when Jere walked in from work and I didn't know who he was is nothing but a 7 year blur.

I do a lot of thinking while driving and this morning on my way to my monthly stitching group meeting I realized just how much has changed in the last five years.

One of the things I am most grateful for (besides my sweetie, Jere of course) is the wonderful group of friends that have come into my life.  I fondly refer to them as my "Hockey Family" ....  Reba, John and their 5 kids Nathan, Elizabeth Ann, Gracie, Owen and Lily ... Anisha, RJ and their daughter Angela ... Jordan ... Kent & Frankie ... Then there is my Hockey son, Peter.

My life would be so empty without these great friends.

A lot has happened in the last 5 years..... I lost my older brother in 2012.  My oldest aunt (and the last relative from my parents generation) passed away in February 2013.  My youngest niece, Robin was killed in a car accident, at the age of 15 on Halloween 2013.  My sweet Bruno went through cancer surgery in January 2013 followed by 3 months of chemo which gave us 22 extra months of his sweet yodeling and tail wagging.  And in August 2014 Jere and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary.

There have been many other things that have happened during the last 5 years, some really happy times and some very sad times,  but you, my friends ... you keep my life full !

Thank you each and everyone of you for sharing your lives and families !

Till next time,

Cindi

  1. Cindy, I have been doing a lot of reflecting lately, too. In addition to finding a great church and re-newing my relationship with God, I have realized just how important friends are in my life. Finding you and the ladies in the stitching group have brought a new meaning to my life. Yep - friends are a very important part of life -- thanks for being my friend. Genie
