Frogs

WHAT IS A FROG ??

To a crafter, be it Cross Stitch, Knitter, Seamstress or Crocheter a FROG isn't this little cutie....

or this one...

or this one...

 or even THIS one ....

It is more like ......THIS !

OH SHIT !!!!!

Stitching along a a good clip, SUDDENLY you realize that .... UH OH .... there 105,551 stitches back there is a ..... GASP ...... NO ..... a MISTAKE ...

a WRONG color, s missed stitch,  a incorrect count .... something that throws the  WHOLE DAMN THING off ..... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

so ... you whip out your trusty little "frogging" tool ...

... and NO .... it isn't some medieval device designed to rip your brains out through your nose ....

It is for correcting those oh so rare mistakes made when the phone rings, the mailman comes to the door or that damn linebacker sacks your quarterback when your team is 2 points down with .05 seconds left on the clock .....

....and this is what you end up with ....

ORTS
aka Old Ratty Threads

Toss them in a pretty little jar that is conveniently situated in the general vicinity of your stitching post and this is what you have.

There is a fellow stitcher/blogger named Sharon aka Daffycat on the WWW that has a page dedicated to ORTS ... It is called "Totally Useless Stitch-a-long" ... better known as TUSAL.

Once  a month, on or around the new moon, you snap a pic of your TUSAL jar and post the progress.  At the end of the year some stitchers transfer their orts to a clear plastic bobble and hand it on their Christmas tree.  (as I have five four legged children that no longer believe in Santa, I don't do Christmas trees any longer) .. and some say they toss them out for the birds.  I have heard this is NOT a good idea as the chemicals used in the dying process can be harmful to animals.  So ... I just toss them.....

There really is no point to this endeavor with the exception of seeing how much you have NOT accomplished during the month.... (unless of course you are one of those PERFECT stitchers we all know and love that makes no mistakes)
